This year, I continued the style established in Polysthetic 98, with flat drawings rendered within a 3D environment. This time, it’s a pixel art winter village, but set on a set of half-wrapped Christmas presents. The environment is modelled and textured with a bit of realism, juxtaposed against the cartoonish nature of pixel art.
I made use of Blender’s cloth simulations with the ribbons, draping them over the presents so they fall naturally, before baking their positions in place. The ribbons function as roads for the inhabitants of the mountainous village of Pixelton.
For the backgrounds, I simply used still photos of arcades, completing the story of video game characters entering and establishing themselves in our world.
